Kate Julian is a senior editor at The Atlantic and the author of the magazine’s May cover story, “The Anxious Child and the Crisis of Modern Parenting.” She is currently writing a book for Scribner expanding on the themes of her previous Atlantic cover story, “The Sex Recession,” which was The Atlantic’s most-read magazine piece of 2018. She is particularly interested in young people’s mental health and in the challenges of coming of age in a world that’s much changed from the one in which today’s parents grew up. Before joining The Atlantic, Julian was the deputy editor of The Washington Post’s Sunday Outlook section and the managing editor of The New Yorker. She lives in the Washington, D.C., area with her husband and two elementary-school aged children.
