Julie Sawaya is the co-founder of Needed, a nutrition company on a mission to empower women to understand and meet their needs before, during, and after pregnancy. Julie and her co-founder, Ryan, met as next door neighbors at Stanford’s business school and quickly realized their shared passion for nutrition. During this time, Julie and Ryan realized through nutritional testing that they were both deficient in Omega-3, a critical nutrient for fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. They dug into the research and learned they were far from alone—up to 95% of women are deficient in Omega-3, and it’s missing from the majority of prenatal vitamins. Ryan and Julie started Needed to meet their own nutritional needs and that of every mama-to-be. Julie is based in Santa Monica, CA, and is currently expecting her first baby.
